DONALD TRUMP has been warned the US faces the risk of a terrorist attack by “sympathisers” of Iran, as tensions between the two nations remain at fever pitch.
US-Iran tensions have seemed to subside but the threat of retaliation against America still remains a topic of discussion. Iran International Editor and Presenter Sadeq Saba explained to Express.co.uk “Islamic militants” in the US could launch an attack in solidarity with Iran. He explained sympathisers to Iran’s pressure from the US could result in an attack.
Mr Saba said: “You can never ignore that there are individuals and sympathisers for Iranian cause and ideology.
“There could be individual Islamic militants in the United States or other Western countries taking the matter into their own hands.
“They could engage in terrorist activity.
“Whether Iran will organise those forces I am not sure that they would do that as that would have huge implications.
“But Iran has repeatedly said in public that if you attack our country it would enrage Muslims around the world.
“So that may give signal to sympathisers around the world to engage in any kind of attack against Western countries.”
These comments come after fears of World War 3 due to the rising tension between the US and Iran over the killing of Iraq general Qassem Soleimani.
Mr Saba also commented on what he believed President trump hoped to achieve with this killing.
Mr Saba explained the US had been unhappy with Iran’s arming of militia groups in the Middle Eastern region and wanted to put more pressure on the current regime.
He said: “The United States of America is obviously not happy that Iran is arming militia groups in the Middle East from Lebanon to Yemen, from Iraq to Syria.
“The US sees Iran’s activities in the region as a threat to its international interests.
“The Iranian’s, on the other hand, signed a nuclear agreement with the United States and other world powers, including the United Kingdom.
“In 2018 President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from that agreement and started a rallying up new sanctions against Iran.
“This is actually crippling the Iranian economy and causing a lot of trouble for the regime.”
